OUR VISION & VALUES

let’s start with ‘why’

What does an Arts Council do, you ask? And who is it for?

It’s simple, really. We serve to cultivate a creative community. We create space and opportunities for creativity, we foster connections, and we develop relationships. And we’re for everyone, including you! Even if you haven’t previously considered yourself an artist before, you’re probably more creative than you think.

We firmly believe that everyone can have a meaningful connection to the Arts, and we’re willing to bet if you look through our values below, you’ll find at least one that resonates with you.

CONNECT

  • The Arts should be accessible, integrated, and inseparable from everyday life.
  • Lifelong appreciation of the Arts begins with learning opportunities and active participation.

UNDERSTAND

  • Every member of the community can be connected to the Arts in meaningful ways.

  • The Arts are a medium for thought, conversation, reaction and response.

  • Each artist brings their background and worldview to their work.

  • The Arts are often more than what may be presented.

APPRECIATE

  • New Art, in its varied forms, should be commissioned and created.

  • Sharing of skills and techniques is key to helping develop others’ abilities.

  • A lifelong love of the Arts should be nurtured in oneself as well as in others.

LOVE

  • It is the community’s duty to promote, support, and advocate for its artists.

  • The Arts help to connect us to people and cultures different from ourselves.

  • The Arts come in diverse forms and genres and are continually evolving.

  • The Arts cannot exist without the essential role of both the Artist and the Audience.

BENEFIT

  • The Arts are inherently collaborative, cultivating empathy, communication, and understanding.

  • A strong community of Artists (from all genres) makes Gahanna more inclusive and welcoming.

  • The Arts contribute to the economic surrounding region.

OUR LEADERSHIP

2024 board of directors

The Arts Council started out with just a few dedicated individuals, but we’ve quickly grown beyond our original Board of Directors.

We’re currently made up of a few hundred friends and neighbors, serving on program and fundraising commissions as well as day-to-day volunteers.
